Putting Power Where It Should Be
Time and time again, people tell us the same thing. Their priorities are clear. They are working to navigate crises. They want self-reliance, not perpetual dependency. And they want solidarity that starts from their agency, not from someone else’s narrative of their helplessness.
We launched the "Putting power where it should be" to disrupt and decentralise crisis knowledge, narratives and accountability, built on the simple belief that local actors and communities should lead when it comes to understanding and responding to crisis. To change the systems, we need to change the story.
What we are doing
Together with local researchers, thought leaders and advocates we want to counter a crisis narrative that the minority world wrote for itself; of need and response, of resourceless people waiting to be saved.
With a network of local research and advocacy partners we will use locally-generated evidence and narratives to improve crisis knowledge, centring local priorities, capacities and expectations of global solidarity.
We are currently working on building a locally-led data and accountability movement across borders with partners in Somalia, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ukraine.
