Mapping the user journeys of cash recipients in Sudan

We have launched a new project in Sudan in 2025 with Collective Sudan  (formerly the Cash Consortium of Sudan), and in partnership with DataQ, to conduct a qualitative study exploring community perceptions of cash assistance in Khartoum and North Darfur. This project sought to understand the unique experiences of recipients of different types of CVA, including cash-in-hand, vouchers, bank transfers and group cash transfers, to identify opportunities and barriers for more effective support.

In Sudan, the devastating conflict, currency reforms and an ongoing liquidity crisis has had significant implications for how cash providers are providing support. Adopting a user journey-approach, the research visualised the entire recipient experience from the moment they need assistance, through the application process, to receiving and using the cash. By foregrounding the iterative process of receiving and spending cash assistance through different channels, the research identified opportunities on how to strengthen programming in line with community feedback.
