Enabling effective DREF operations through systematic community feedback approaches

The DREF is a vital IFRC mechanism that provides rapid funding for early action and immediate disaster response by Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. It supports small and medium-scale disasters or offers initial funding before launching an Emergency Appeal, enabling fast and effective local humanitarian action.

However, limited community engagement in these time-sensitive processes can reduce the relevance and effectiveness of aid and strain relationships between National Societies and the communities they serve.

This project seeks to strengthen the use of systematic community feedback to inform more effective and sustainable interventions, guide advocacy efforts with relevant stakeholders, and enhance preparedness and readiness activities.

The project supports the Ethiopian and Honduran Red Cross Societies in designing tailored data collection tools and strategies to gather real-time, actionable feedback that informs decision-making, improves programme adaptation, and reinforces community-led action. The resulting tools and guidance will be applicable across all DREF operations.
